Put Victoria on Your Table at Social House, Jakarta

There is no doubt that Australian produce are superior to that grown locally on Indonesian soil. Perhaps little known to the public, the state of Victoria, is actually Australia’s main producer of mutton and lamb, dairy products and dried vine fruits, with a substantial amount of them, exported 1.). So, the next time you see the label 'Product of Australia' at the supermarkets, that produce is highly likely to come from Victoria.

Quite recently, Victorian Government Business Office (VGBO) Indonesia hosted a private dinner at Social House, which was attended by several journalists from local media as well as a few social media influencers and myself, as a blogger.

The theme of the dinner 'Put Victoria on Your Table' or PVOYT sounded quite interesting to me. I've never heard of it before, but turns out that this state-wide campaign has been ongoing since 2009, led by the makers of Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and supported by the Victorian Government to encourage consumption of, and loyalty to, high quality food and wine of Victorian provenance 2.)

One of such wine, served to accompany our dinner that evening, were Shiraz & Pinot Noir of Scotchmans Hill.

For the dinner, Executive Chef of Social House, Aldo Volpi created a total of 3 delightful dishes made with superior Australian meat from the state of Victoria.

(in the photo above) 1st dish: Goulburn Valley Prime Beef Carpaccio, truffle vinaigrette, wild rocket, parmesan cheese (IDR 105,000). The carpaccio was simply, divine and this is the first time that truffle played a supporting role in the dish, because the real star was the perfectly, thinly sliced, premium beef carpaccio.

Delightful lamb ragout, absolutely odorless, and the fresh fettuccine (made in-house) was perfectly al dente.

(in the photo above) 3rd dish: Goulburn Valley prime pan-seared tenderloin, black & white peppercorn sauce (IDR 230,000).
I'm quite particular about steak, I like it rather thin, juicy but not dripping red, tender and has that burnt smell. This tenderloin had all that, plus paired with the white peppercorn sauce and perfect sides of mushrooms, and fried thin chips, I'm quite embarrased to admit that I cleaned my plate in a rather un-lady like manner! =P

It was a great meal overall, although I felt like something was sort of missing at the end.  Oh, I know, must have been the absence of a sweet ending (gelato, choco lave cake, panna cotta, and the likes) haha...oh well it was late, and chef's gotta go home...

Lastly, I'd like to thank you VGBO Indonesia for hosting the dinner and for the kind invitation extended to us, I will certainly look forward to visiting Melbourne soon as I get the chance, hopefully to experience, more thoroughly, the real PVOYT experience and to immerse in the hipster Melbournian atmosphere.
