Mother’s Day in Bali, does it even have to get better than this? A cup of tea and nice card should do the trick on a normal Mother’s Day, but not here in paradise. With so many ways to spoil her on the island without breaking the bank, it’s only fair to do a little more than in the real world, right?

Here’s our guide to making Mother’s Day a heavenly hit in Bali.

 Toko Emporium

From beautiful Balinese stunners to modern neon art, Toko Emporium has everything Mum would love to take home

Step One: Gorgeous Gifts

Gift giving – the no brainer, but oh so fun! Nothing will make her smile more than untying a big pink bow and unwrapping a little something special that says ‘I love you’.

Green Spot flower shop

Seminyak’s Green Spot offers some of the freshest bouquets in town. Grab the biggest bunch you can find in white or yellow and dress it up with brown paper and ribbon. No woman can resist being dazzled with flowers.

Green Spot, Jalan Laksamana No. 88, Seminyak, p. +62 361 736735.

Toko Emporium

For the modern, hip or uber-stylish Mum, choose from neon-coloured buddha sculptures through to beautiful wooden, carved homeware delights at this little gem in Seminyak. Choose your fancy – lots of gorgeous bling, brightly coloured, tassled accessories, photo frames, jewellery, stunning artworks and feathered, shell installations will all help make Mum feel so hip right now.

Toko Emporium, Jl Kayu Aya No1, Seminyak, p. +62 821 474 59485.

Mercredi

Mercredi

Beautiful textiles, hand-crafted designs and elegant furnishings. This little but gorgeous store is a Mum mecca. Their range of fabrics and designer homewares marries the perfect blend of Balinese style with five star quality, and the space feels invitingly like you’re in Mum’s own Pinterest mood board.

Mercredi, Jalan Raya Basangkasa (Corner Jalan Kayu Aya), Seminyak, p. +62 361 1735516, Open 9am–8pm.

Bungalow Living

Candles, oil burners, jewellery; there’s no shortage of Mum presents at Canggu’s favourite gift store cum café. Bungalow Living boasts a range of leather wallets and locally produced cushions – our hot pick being the ones with the oh-so apt “I love you to the moon” print. Beautiful knickknacks and Indian flair make this store a winner.

Bungalow Living Bali, Jalan Pantai Berawa 35A, Canggu 80361, Bali, Indonesia, p. +62 361 8446567. Open Mon-Sat 830am-6pm.

Republic of Plants

Since step two requires a teapot, you can easily overachieve here in killing two birds with one stone and buy one as a gift! This store is also home to beautiful ceramics and mini plants, if tea is not Mum’s thing.

Republic of Plants, Jalan Raya Anyar no 9, Canggu, p. +62 812 3910373. Open Sun-Thurs 9am-6pm and Fri-Sat 10am-7pm.

Monsieur Spoon

Chocolate croissants Mum?  No problem, from Monsieur Spoon

Step Two:  Breakfast in Bed

Think back to all the meals Mum has made you over the years. It’s time to return the favour before you take her out for the day.

Samadi Organic Farmers Markets

If the villa or hotel isn’t already booked for breakkie, give Mum a sleep in while you duck over to Samadi and pick up a fresh loaf of spinach and herb bread, mushrooms, avocados, tomatoes and all the other goodness needed for a farm to bed breakfast. Don’t forget the lemongrass, fresh mint and ginger to brew up some tea.  And maybe a quick yoga class whilst you’re at it!

Samadi Bali, Jalan Padang Linjong 39, Echo Beach, Canggu, p. +62 812 383 12505. Markets open Sun 9am-2pm.

Monsieur Spoon

While you’re out that way, you must pick up some chocolate croissants and coffee from Monsieur Spoon. The newspaper and a few mags will top off the bed in breakfast quite nicely.

Monsieur Spoon, Jalan Umalas 2, n°43 Kerobokan. Open daily 7.30am-7pm
Monsieur Spoon, Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong, Canggu. Open daily 6am-6pm.

Balique Jimbaran

A Mum Paradise:  Balique is a beautifully designed, favourite destination for lunch on Mother’s Day

Step Three: No Cooking Required

When the chaos of breakfast finishes and the gifts have been a hit, it’s time to launch out of the villa for culinary celebrations. The question: brunch or lunch? Yes, breakfast and brunch can happen on the same day, particularly when that day is Mother’s Day…

Balique

This vintage café and restaurant in Jimbaran Bay has all the stylish-Mumsy charm you could hope for on this special day. Grand old-world furniture, coloured cushions and delicate chandeliers will truly delight. Did we mention they do amazing cocktails?

Balique Restaurant, Jalan Uluwatu No.39, Jimbaran, p. +62 361 704 945.

Watercress

You know you’re on to a good thing when a menu talks of Bedugul strawberries and poached pears, rosemary sautéed mushrooms, creamy goats cheese and wood smoked ham. Set in a homely indoor-outdoor venue with great staff and decorative flowers, the Sunday Family Brunch at Watercress is always a hit.

Watercress Cafe, Jalan Batubelig 21a, Kerobokan, 80361, p. +62 361 780 8030. Open Mon-Sat 730am-4pm and 5:30pm-late and Sun 730am-5pm.

Spring Spa

Step Four:  Day Spa Bliss

Not every step needs to be a full-blown family affair. This is Mum’s day after all – she’ll be probably desperate for a bit of RnR… but she would love it more if you’re there with her, so it would be rude not to join her.

Spring Spa

If you can’t win Mum over with a coconut hair mask, a yoga massage or a full body sea salt buff, then she’s a tough cookie. Spring Spa’s prices are reasonable and the fit out is ultra sparkling modern. A few hours here leaves any woman beaming ear to ear.

Spring Spa Bali, Jalan Petitenget 100x, Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia. p. +62 361 8499636. Open Mon-Sat 10am-7pm, Sun 10am-6pm.

Gold Dust

It’s not everyday we can drop 1,450,000 Rp on a facial; it’s better to save it for special days like Mother’s Day. The whole Gold Dust experience is fit for a queen. What could feel more decadent than being covered in delicate tissues of gold, as pictured above?

Gold Dust Beauty, Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong 66, Canggu, p. +62 361 3626394.

Biku High Tea

Biku is a beautiful location for tea or more, in Seminyak

Step Five:  High tea

High tea is a royal affair perfect for impressing the matriarch of the family. And Bali taps into this trend in perfect abundance…

Biku

We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again, Biku is one of the island’s finest high tea destinations. Opt for the traditional finger sandwiches and scones style affair or dabble in an Asian high tea delighted by the likes of Vietnamese spring rolls and salak poached in cinnamon and star anise. Make a booking well in advance as this is sure to be a popular idea for the big day.

Biku, Jalan Petitenget No 888, Kerobokan, p. +62 361 8570888. Open daily 8am-11pm.

Metis

Pistachio macarons, Moroccan mint teas, prawn sandwiches and raspberry scones are just a few of the highlights on the Metis high tea menu. The lavish setting and sprawling lily pond are just the cherry on top of the three-tiered tray. Metis is also home to a boutique gallery of handcrafted jewelry, one-of-a-kind objet d’art, contemporary fashion pieces, photographs and paintings – just in case you forgot step one.

Metis, Jalan Petitenget No.6 Kerobokan Kelod, Kuta, Bali, Indonesia, p. +62 361 4737888.
