Northerners rejoice! A slew of new restaurants are now calling Pantai Indah Kapuk home, as if the culinary ‘hood needed more street cred. From seafood to Chinese to Western, March’s hot new tables will make sure you come back for seconds!
If you like your seafood to be spicy, savoury and messy, Dancing Crab has a bib ready for you. Already spreading Cajun cuisine across Asia with outlets in Singapore and Japan, Jakartans will now get their chance to crack open a crab or two. Cajun flavouring is unique and distinct to Louisiana but Indonesians will find some similarities to our fiery cuisine.
Dancing Crab, Lotte Shopping Avenue, lantai 4, Jalan Prof Dr Satrio, Kunigan, South Jakarta, p. 62-29/889-499. Hours: Mon-Sun 11am-10pm.
Gauden Café and Bar
Besides for the horrible macet, West Jakartans are finding a new reason to stay local. Gauden Café and Bar, located in Lippo Mall Puri, is the perfect place for a mid-day break. The sleek industrial space prides itself on its light, small dishes and delicious desserts – just the thing to accompany an afternoon coffee break. If you’re too tempted by their sweet offerings, we highly recommend their banana Nutella mille crepe, which has all of the lightness that the multi-tiered crepe should have while still being rich and decadent. As the day transitions into the evening, Gauden also serves as a beer bar and the perfect venue for an after-work tipple.
Gauden Café and Bar, Lippo Mall Puri, ground floor, Puri Indah, West Jakarta, p. 62-21/2911-1316. Hours: Mon-Sun 10am-10pm.
You can’t have too much pizza in the city! Especially when you can grab it by the slice like at the new NYC Pizza in Kemang. This pizza parlour serves it up large and thick just like the pies in New York City. The soft opening menu might be a bit small but it has all of the basics plus treats including mozzarella sticks, and garlic and cinnamon bread.
NYC Pizza, Jl. Kemang Raya no. 14, Kemang, South Kemang, p. 62-21/7179-5000. Hours: Mon-Sun 11am-12am.
Well this is interesting, Mottomoo Hamburg is a Japanese take on Western cuisine. These fusion-cuisine specialists start with a 100-percent beef patty made from Australia Black Angus then topped with an array of ingredients. Choose from decadent gooey cheese, curry, or just a fried egg. The hamburgers might be their specialty but the menu is filled out with Japanese dishes including omurice and croquettes.
Mottomoo Hamburg, Ruko Garden House blok B/21, Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta. Hours: Mon-Thurs 10am-10:30pm, Fri-Sat 10am-11pm, Sun 10am-10:30pm.
48 Signature kicks off a round of new restaurants opening in Pantai Indah Kapuk this month. This casual dim sum spot has all of the favourites in their steamer baskets including siew mai, hakau, cheong fen, and pangsit udang goreng mayonnaise. If you’re looking for something a little more substantial, tick off a hearty bowl of bubur with the works.
48 Signature, Ruko Gold Coast, Jl. Raya Pantai Indah Kapuk, Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta, p. 62-21/2942-9292. Hours: Mon-Sun 11am-10pm.
Adding to the culinary reputation of Pantai Indah Kapuk, Chinese resto Harbour Town specialises in delicate and not-too-greasy Cantonese dishes. We’re a big fan of their soups, especially the steamed minced pigeon with chestnut and the mixed seafood and milk.
Harbour Town, Ruko Gold Coast Blok B No.20, Bukit Golf Mediterania, Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta, p. 62- 21/2903-3020. Hours: Mon-Sun 10am-10pm.
Nam Nam Noodle Bar
Singaporeans have long been able to grab a quick and delicious Vietnamese fix at Nam Nam Noodle Bar and now we’re getting our chance! Just because it’s fast doesn’t mean it’s not good, Nam Nam makes its bakso fresh and in-house and you can definitely taste the difference. Nam Nam says it has changed a few authentic touches to cater to the local taste but their pho broth is probably the closest – and best – to the original in town!
Nam Nam Noodle Bar, Ruko Crown Golf, Blok D No. 21 & 23, Bukit Golf Mediterania, Jl. Marina Indah Raya, Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta. Hours: Mon-Sun 11am-11pm.
