A lot of us have imposed self-inflicted torture with our New Years resolutions, but don’t lie, a sweet treat is always in the cards, especially when it’s warm, fresh-off-the-press waffles. All the way from Europe, Petit Julien is bringing their delicious, authentic Belgian waffles (You know the Belgians know a thing or two about waffles!) and other treats. Our mouths are already watering!
Petit Julien is all about the ingredients. Serving only Belgian chocolate, which they use for their Belgian-style brownies, which are shaped like mini muffins, and all their chocolate deserts. They also import a very specific type of pearl sugar for their liege waffles. The sugar caramelise on the waffle grill adding another reason (did we really need another reason?) to fall in love with these sweet decadents even more.
Their liege waffles are to die for and we give them three thumbs up. Starting from more of a dough than a batter, these waffles end up with an almost custardy center, speckled with caramelized sugar, encased in a soft crust. If you’re feeling particularly sinful, order a glass of Belgian chocolate, hot or cold (both good), so your waffle doesn’t feel lonely or to give your taste buds the biggest hug in the world.
We know you’re going to be sad to leave, so take home a box of speculos, a traditional Belgian ginger-cinnamon biscuit, to dip into your tea or coffee for your afternoon sugar fix. You’ll thank us, we promise.
