Sometimes you blink and a bevy of hot new tables hits the scene in Bali. A renewed focus on lifestyle or multi-concept stores and culinary creations from the freshest, quality, local produce is the order of the day.

Bazaar

One part café, restaurant, bakery and food market, this emporium of all things gourmand and yummy has finally unleashed itself on Batu Belig with great fanfare. With a homely Italian feel that inspires their menu, everything is sourced fresh, with the farmer’s deli market stocked with daily fruit and veggies from the island’s hinterlands. Preserves and pantry goodies are abundant as is the excellent coffee served in the café next door. A real one-stop food solution. Awesome. More on this one soon.

Souq Cafe 

Full marks for concept alone, this brand new Seminyak café (only open for lunch at present) is like dining in a well-appointed den of funky clothing, objects d’art, jewellery and homewares. The unpretentious menu has some really awesome sandwiches (try the Chinese BBQ pork sarnie) and Vietnamese inspired salads. Organic sausages, sophisticated cuts and scrumptious desserts and coffees make this a real contender for best new dining space of 2014. Super cool, get on it before the rest of the world finds out.

The Parlour

Bistro goodness in the heart of Petitenget, this place literally sprouted up overnight and is already gaining a popular following for their sangrias and steaks (some of the best in Bali we’re told). The two floor extremely spacious NY style eatery is casual by day and classy by night with fully aircon interiors and a menu that concentrates its efforts on quality produce. Breakfast benedict is a treat as are the laksas (at last laksa made it to Bali!), while the evening menu leans towards nouveau French fine dining. You can’t really go wrong with this place.

This cool new neighbourhood hangout down in Berawa is scoring highly with the expats for its casual vibe and great quality breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The Atlantic poached eggs with smoked salmon, red onion and dill are divine as are the pizzas and hamburgers, and one of the best slabs of cheesecake on the island can be found on the sweets menu. The best part of M&M is the quiet location and rustic tropical garden views out over the rice paddies to nearby Canggu. An excellent new addition to the hood.

This ultra lounge come restaurant is literally just open on Drupadi and causing a bit of a sensation already amongst those in the know. Ultra refined ambience, cool lounge vibes and seriously good dining awaits. Kilo’s Mexican take on the spicy tuna sushi roll is a winner in our book as is the Japanese Italian fusion style avocado-wasabi tuna tartar with flour crisps and cream of ebiko pasta with smelt roe, tiger prawns and chives. You won’t be going thirsty at Kilo either with their excellent blends and bespoke cocktails setting the standard for almost every other restaurant on the Drupadi strip. Dip in before reservations get tricky to come by.
