Wherever you fall on the spectrum of superstition, the number 13 is infamous. To the 13 owners of the new Tredici Ristorante, (which means “13” in Italian), and 13 Monkeys, the number means something good – and tasty.
Located across from Blok S, in the Senopati area, Tredici, is hands down the neighbourhood’s best Italian restaurant, and the adjoining 13 Monkeys is a laid-back, innovative, and fun cocktail bar.
Chef Mario De Carlini has sculpted a classic Italian menu with a lot of local touches. He tries to use as much local produce as possible, even down to creating a special recipe for his Italian sausage, which is crafted by a local charcutier. Playing with natural and authentic Italian flavours Tredici has a no-nonsense approach to Italian food – no cutting corners and no unnecessary sugar – so you won’t be finding any saccharin sweet tomato sauces here!
Between their house-made fresh pasta, homemade breads and wood oven-fired pizzas, there is something for everyone here! In addition to their incredibly flavourful menu, Tredici has engaged American bar consultant Carson Quinn to tailor a fantastic, well-balanced drinks menu.
When the owners of Tredici were conceptualizing, it occurred to them that they also wanted a bar. Cue 13 Monkeys, where, as one of the owners Stella says, “Come here after work. You can loosen your tie, unbutton your top button and be sure that what whatever happens at 13 Monkeys stays at 13 Monkeys”.
With more of a focus on hearty, delicious, refreshing cocktails than suffering through shots and poor bottle service, 13 Monkeys is definitely the spot to meet for a couple of drinks after work, wait out the traffic, and forget your worries.
