You can’t come to a tropical paradise without having an ice cream [or three] and we have just the shop to visit if you want to enjoy super silky and creamy ice cream made from real food – with no artificial, anti-melting agents or artificial flavourings – and hand made right in front of your eyes! If Nutella-Ella-Ella, Honey Cheesecake or Salty Caramel Popcorn sound like your cup of tea, read on!
Nitrogenie was founded in Australia by Aussie’s Matthew Bailey and Steve Minon, and inspired by innovative British celebrity chef, Heston Blumenthal, who advocates scientific understanding in cooking. Nitrogen ice cream is used by all the great chefs around the world in high-end restaurants. Nitrogenie discovered how to make it available to all the people in the world who don’t get to go to such fancy restaurants… and they have brought the concept to Bali! Hooray!
So how does it work? By magic of course! Nitrogen gas is present in the air we breathe every day, so although the word ‘nitrogen’ might sound a bit scientific and scary, it isn’t at all. It evaporates completely and returns to the air naturally after the ice cream is made, leaving no residue or funny after-taste. Liquid nitrogen [at a temp of around -200 degrees Celsius] is used to freeze the ingredients, and it does it so quickly that no ice crystals have time to form – leaving a thick, smooth and creamy consistency, with incredible flavours [as the liquid nitrogen allows for effective absorption of the ingredients].
Nitrogenie use real eggs, milk and cream for their base, and add in real food ingredients [such as fruit, nuts, honey, chocolate and more] to create their delicious and unique flavours. You choose your flavour and the lovely staff will make it from scratch right in front of you, in under 3 minutes [we guarantee it will take less time than that to polish it off though!]. Their most popular flavour to date is the Salty Caramel Popcorn [yeh, our mouths just watered at the thought too], but they have lots of flavours on offer including Honey Cheesecake, Vanilla Beanie, Nutella Ella Ella, Peppermint Choc Chip and Roasted Coconut Cream… Divine!
Located on the Ground Floor of the swanky Seminyak Village, it is impossible to miss with a funky decorated space and staff attired in bright gelato colours. They are open seven days a week so you can enjoy this magical ice cream whenever you fancy it, so if you have a sweet tooth then head to Nitrogenie without delay – your taste buds will be eternally grateful!
