If colourful food, mega margaritas and delicious burritos are your thing, then visit every one of our fave Mexican restaurants in Bali serving up the best Mexican in Bali! You’re welcome. There are lots of quality Mexican addresses all over the island, from simple but sensational like Taco Casa, to the famous and favoured Lacalita and Lacalaca, not forgetting the uber cool [with a serious party vibe] Mexicola in Seminyak… and more. Arriba!
What is not to love about Lacalaca? The food is awesome [why wouldn’t it be when the ingredients come all the way from, yep you guessed it, Mexico], the drinks are perhaps too good [there are five Margarita variations!], and the ambiance is perfect for a lively yet sophisticated meal out with friends. Try their signature tacos with slow braised meats, and for the brave souls drip on some of their special homemade hot chili sauce…. It comes with a warning! They have a whole host of events going on as well, with DJ’s to private parties, so definitely check out their website. We also love their Insta page for inspo for anything from beach hair to life quotes to food [obviously!].

Lacalittttta! The name has a certain ring to it – doesn’t it make you want to grab a jug of sangria to go with the great food, and head off to Old Man’s after for a boogie! Lacalita is a Canggu’s popular Mexican restaurant located on Batu Bolong. With bright colours and cool design, tasty cocktails [the rum based ones are delicious!], it’s the delish food that will keep you coming back for more and more. All the Mexican favourites are available to munch away all night, but we have to recommend the Fundido, described simply as ‘a hot pot of melted cheese, chorizo, tomato & jalapeno, and served with tortilla chips. Heavenly! This spot is the perfect place for dinner with friends … and make a night of it!

Taco Casa, Ubud, Seminyak & Canggu
Taco Casa is one of the more well known Mexican restaurants in Bali, perhaps because the flagship Ubud location was the one of the first places on the island to serve Mexican cuisine. We give thanks to Taco Casa for the tequila and tacos revolution! They have locations in both Ubud, Seminyak and Canggu now, and all tend to be full to the brim of diners chomping on their freshly made tacos, burritos and quesadillas. For people not so keen on spice, you’ll be pleased to know that the spicy salsas and sauces come on the side.

Motel Mexicola, Seminyak
Motel Mexicola has got to be on your hit list when in Bali. Better known for its party vibe [look out for the particularly lively man that will pour straight tequila down your throat if you look thirsty], this place is buzzing every night of the week. The space is pretty awesome, with an upstairs and downstairs area to sit and eat, plus seats at the bar and booths for the bigger groups. The menu consists of the Mexican staples, but we recommend trying the chorizo quesadilla and the zesty ceviche! Our fave bit about Motel Mexicola [apart from the thirteen good quality types of tequila on offer] has to be the bright and funky decor – this is definitely not the place for a quiet and relaxing dinner out!

La Libre Taqueria, Kerobokan
La Libre Taqueria started off as a small warung but its popularity started to spread amongst the local crowd. It is still a fairly simple space [although it definitely boasts some funky decor], but the food is fresh and healthy, perfect for any hungry tummies looking for a cheap and cheerful meal. Everything is made in house, from the guacamole to the tortillas and salsa, and all the ingredients are sourced locally where possible. And for any sarnie lovers, they’ve recently launched a new menu which includes slow roasted meats, whole chickens, meats by weight and possibly some of the best sandwiches on the island. We want to try the charcoal roasted pork sandwich on Kayu Api bread, it looks good enough to eat [pun intended].

La Mexicana, Canggu
This spacious Mexican restaurant on Jalan Raya Canggu is a little off the beaten track [and is on a busy main road] but it is worth it! It is big, airy and colourful, with lots of seating inside and out. There is even a large cacti, perfectly setting off that Mexican ambiance! If you want to incorporate a little food, drink and dancing then head here on a Friday night for their Salsa night! Gorge on tasty frozen margaritas and delicious Mexican grub, then burn it all off as you hit the dance floor. Friday nights just got a whole lot better! Ay Caramba!

TJ’s Mexican Bar & Restaurant, Kuta
The island’s original Mexican restaurant, TJ’s is still as popular today and it is when it opened its doors more than 28 years ago! They use all local produce, which can be seen in the taste of the food, plus they incorporate some Indonesian dishes with a Mexican flair, like their Mexican Nasi Campur. Situated in the heart of bustling Kuta, and around a relaxing open tropical garden and ponds, there is also a bar which serves up some very decent margaritas, plus some cool electric music [mixed by the owners!] that will get you into that fiesta spirit!

Taco Beach Grill, Seminyak
If you like your breakfast with a Mexican twist, you have to try out their Huevos Rancheros at Taco Beach Grill! If you are lucky enough to have been to Mexico you will know that this is a classic South American breaky, and it is goooood! Eggs, tortillas, refried beans, sour cream and and pico de gallo (rice). A must try for you morning people! Or if you are going for lunch or dinner check out their Build ’em yourselves Tacos – it comes with tortillas, fillings, salsas and sauces so you can make you very own unique taco exactly to your liking. The space itself is nothing fancy, in fact they describe the decor as ‘Tijuana brothel meets Mexican ghetto chic’, and it is exactly that, just what you would expect to find in South America!

Enjoy real authentic Mexican food, in a traditional Spanish themed setting, with awesome live music at Hacienda. The space boasts a gorgeous view of the rice paddies, so come and enjoy their happy hour [Sunday – Friday from 4-7pm] and sip Mexican cocktails in lush surroundings. Food wise they have everything from Mexican soups and salads, to all the classic dishes [tacos, burritos, tostadas and chimichangas to name but a few], plus some awesome main dishes. Our fave has to be the Pollo Con Crema Y Rayas; grilled chicken cooked with pobiano peppers and sour cream, served with Mexican rice, beans and tortilla. Yum!
