The sultry surrounds of Jakarterati-favoured joint E&O was the backdrop for a recent chef collaboration celebrating Indonesia’s closest neighbour, Malaysia, in celebration of two restaurant launches. Chef Will Meyrick, arguably Indonesia’s most passionate gastro-advocate, opened up the doors of his Jakarta restaurant to invite guests to a one-of-a-kind show: A Weekend With Wan and Will.
Malaysia is the inspiration for Meyrick’s new restaurant, Tiger Palm, opening in Seminyak, Bali this month – so who better than the jovial, entertaining and much-loved Chef Wan, to tutor his friend in the subtleties of nyonya and Peranakan cuisine? Chef Wan has been a fixture of national and international cooking shows for over a decade, and rose to fame by introducing the world to Malaysia’s culinary secrets.
At E&O, guests were treated to a three-course feast over Friday and Saturday 23-24 October, highlighting the fresh flavours we can expect to find at Tiger Palm. We enjoyed Meyrick’s Sting-Ray with Green Mango Kerabu and Nam Chut, and Chef Wan’s Ayam Masak Merah with Tomato Pilaf Rice – delicious, and the perfect teaser before we get to visit the new restaurant.
Not only that, Meyrick, Indonesia’s most prolific restaurant opener, has also recently opened an outpost of Seminyak’s wildly successful Mama San on Chef Wan’s turf, Kuala Lumpur. Situated in one of KL’s most buzzing neighbourhoods, Mama San Kuala Lumpur will be Meyrick’s third Mama San restaurant after Bali and Hong Kong.
