New restaurants in Bali: Lantern

Cool new designer interiors, hip happening menus, new designer cocktails and international reputations are on tap as these hot new restaurants in Bali open their doors in time for the festive season. World class dining standards [along with the temperatures!] are again heating up as we introduce Bali’s newest food fabulousness for all budgets and ethical standards:  Tiger Balm, Settimo Cielo, Lantern, MIURA Pintxos, Sage and Cafe Organic.

New restaurants in Bali: Tiger Balm

Two weeks people – counting down!

Tiger Balm, Seminyak

Calm down… this one is so hot it’s actually not open yet, but not long now!  One of the most anticipated restaurants of the year is now only two weeks away from opening and we’re on the countdown.  If there’s one GodFather of Bali’s restaurant scene, it’s Will Meyrick and his Balinese portfolio of dining greatness with restaurants Sarong, Mama San and Ubud’s Hujan Locale.  With his latest venture Tiger Balm, Will is showcasing his inspiration from the cultures and cuisines of Malaysia with direct influences of Nyonya  and Thai cooking, and food historically inspired by the Chinese traders and self-starting businessmen from Southern India.   Stop It.

The eclectic décor of Tiger Palm will transport you to the ‘Palm Court’ of the Eastern and Orient Hotel, with playful and tropical mid-century modernism and vintage Malay and Tiki-pop fusion. Fragrant dishes from the streets and kitchens of Penang will [naturally] feature the highest quality ingredients, sourced both locally and overseas. Rich curries, soft rice noodles, crispy bites and fresh fish are inspired by Chef Meyrick’s travels and his in-depth research of Malaysian cuisine.  To skip the wait list, hurry.

New restaurants in Bali: Settimo Cielo

We’re in Seventh Heaven here at Settimo Cielo, Seminyak

Settimo Cielo Bali, Seminyak

Any restaurant meaning ‘Seventh Heaven’ already screams foodie fun and sounds pretty darn great to us.  And Bali already agrees. New Italian restauranto Settimo Cielo is already making noise in the new restaurant conversation stakes, blending modern sophistication with the traditional warmth of an Italian+Bali kitchen: eclectic design, relaxing atmosphere, fresh water pond with fire feature, tropical gardens, a treed terrace and signature glass ceiling allows you to dine al fresco, rain or shine.

Chef Nicolas artistically combines traditional Italian flavours with cutting-edge techniques for a modern menu with luxurious imported items and local, organic produce.  Try these on for size:   Twice Cooked Jumbo Octopus or Eggplant Involtini, delish pastas or meat magic including Osso Buco, Milanese All’Osso, Jumbo River Prawns and Squid Skewers.  But it’s those terracotta bowls [with hand-made pasta – yum, or grilled seafood portioned from copper and brass], or side dishes served in those brightly coloured ceramics that finishes that Italiano experience to the nines. Go for a sunrise brunch, a leisurely mid-day meal, an after work cocktail, or an evening of everything.

New restaurants in Bali: MIURA Pintxos Bar & Grill

Basque cuisine has come to Seminyak!

MIURA Pintxos Bar & Grill

Bali already has a love affair with tapas, but Basque dining and delicacies are now firing up right here in Seminyak, with MIURA Pintxos Bar & Grill  initiating the tropics into the Basque culture with a lovely, casual and affordable touch.  Love Tapas too?  You’ll love this authentically, inspired cuisine from the Basque Country and their other Spanish specialties.

‘Pintxos’ is the Basque version of tapas, or pinchos in Castilian Spanish, and usually ‘spiked’ with a skewer or toothpick, often to a piece of bread.  Besides the Basque cuisine, Miura offers a wide collection of Gin – our heroes! All used to produce creative Gin based cocktails, enjoyed on the alfresco terrace while the DJ spins some groovy Latin vibes.  The love affair continues…
