Best Tex-Mex/Spanish: 1st Runner Up
Having just celebrated its first anniversary in July, Tapas Movida has proven to be a favourite among Jakarta’s foodies. Located on the main Cipete Raya street, Tapas Movida promises its guests ‘a little taste of Spain in every bite’ and offers delicious tapas, pinchos, paella and sangria among other traditional Spanish food and drinks.
Designed as a casual venue where good food meets good atmosphere, the ambiance is pretty casual with a Flamenco-inspired indoor dining area which features black-and-white tiles and exposed bricks. Meanwhile, the alfresco dining area is Gaudi-inspired, and features built-in seats inlaid with mozaic as well as wrought iron chairs and tables.
Once you’ve tried everything on their tapas menu, from traditional croquettes to chorizos, churros and a variety of ham, get ready for dinner. Opt for either items from the unique a la carte menu such as Spanish oxtail stew (Rabo de Toro) or pan fried stingray, or go all out for the paella –large enough for 2-4 people- with a choice of either vegetable, chicken & vegetable or chicken & seafood. Whatever your choice, all is to be enjoyed alongside a great selection of Spanish wines.
Being one of only few Spanish restaurants available in the city, Tapas Movida often hosts cultural performances such as Flamenco dance or Spanish guitar recital to celebrate its rich heritage. Be sure to check out their website regularly for any upcoming events.
